Innovative Dispensing Partnership Powers Sustainable Pest Control with Precision Technology

The precise application of fluids, even in the smallest volumes, is becoming increasingly important in industrial series production. Numerous companies specialize in solving dispensing challenges in the automotive, medical technology, and electronics sectors. In these industries, the application system and material supply are crucial components for success.

However, there are occasionally projects that go beyond the usual applications of adhesives or lubricants. These projects demand comprehensive consultation, extensive expertise, and the willingness to seek external support when specialized knowledge is required.

SR-TEK and Perfecdos recently partnered together/collaborated to successfully implement one such extraordinary project.

The Challenge

British startup BigSis offers sustainable solutions for insect control, leveraging the proven and powerful sterile insect technique (SIT). SIT is a platform technology that has been effectively used for over 60 years to control insect pests. It involves producing sterile males of the pest species and releasing them into the environment, where they mate with wild females. These females then produce no offspring, effectively suppressing the target pest population.

BigSis has reinvented this approach by incorporating robotics and artificial intelligence into the production of sterile male insects.

The challenge for SR-TEK and Perfecdos was to design a feeding and dosing system for these insects. This required the precise dispensing of fluid in small droplets with high repeatability. Additionally, the fluid needed to be thermally pre-treated and conveyed to the application system at a defined pressure.

The Solution

After conducting successful dispensing tests in Perfecdos’ laboratory using their advanced jet valves, the next step was to achieve not only high-precision dispensing but also to ensure reliable material supply at an industrial scale.

SR-TEK developed a custom system that heats and mixes the fluid according to the exact specifications required. The delivery system was designed to ensure that the material consistently reached the dosing valve at the correct temperature and pressure. Furthermore, the entire system was engineered to be easy to clean, scalable, and cost-effective.

Partnership and Success

“After extensively testing the contact-free dosing of the challenging material in our laboratory and identifying the optimal process parameters, we needed a partner who could deliver the material to our valve exactly as the process required—in terms of temperature, pressure, and consistency. Loris Medart, the founder of SR-TEK, has extensive experience in industrial dispensing and truly understands the needs of customers. SR-TEK was the perfect partner for this project, especially as Perfecdos and SR-TEK have successfully collaborated on numerous projects before,” explained a representative from Perfecdos.

Loris Medart added, “This request was certainly unique, even for us. BigSis’s VP of Engineering, Razzib Khan, provided detailed insights into the requirements for the tank and conveyor system. I believe we met the challenge successfully—the system works seamlessly, and we have since delivered additional units to BigSis.”
